Talavera Pottery Explained
Talavera pottery is often praised for its superior quality and vibrant colors, but what else makes them so special? Created by master artisans, Talavera pots require raw materials found in only one place on Earth—the Puebla region in Mexico.
At LunaCrete, it takes us about a month to make each piece of authentic Talavera pottery from start to finish, with rigorous assessment at every stage. The clay is molded by hand or on a pottery wheel before getting fired in a kiln that heats to 1,500 degrees Fahrenheit. Each piece is then hand-painted with six specific pigments. For the final step, we apply a tin glaze and fire the pot one last time for added durability and effect.
